Meet Ian, Rocky Mountain Sign Expert
What does a typical day look like for you?
Nothing happens until I get some coffee in me! I typically will get to the office early and check emails and voicemails. Then I get to work with whatever task might be ahead of me. I take a late lunch break for 30min in the afternoon and watch my favorite sports show, Highly Questionable and eat before getting back to work. When I get home I put in the head phones and walk my beagle/aussie mix and enjoy the beautiful Colorado scenery! I always enjoy a good happy hour with friends or having people over for dinner in the evenings.
How long have you been with ASI?
Having literally started from the ground up, I started cutting grass for ASI when I was 14. In the summers my best friend and colleague in the ASI, Colorado office, Justin Halverson and I worked in the shop, helped on installs and in other departments as needed.
I bypassed college and worked at a few shops within in the industry wrapping cars and working on commercial signs to gain all the experience I could on signage. Justin and I were living and working together in downtown Des Moines when ASI offered us both a position as Business Development Managers for the Colorado office, so we packed up a UHaul and headed west!
While I’m now only 30, I’ve been working in the sign world for 16 years. Clients appreciate the knowledge and experience I bring to the table. My goal is always to make a client’s life easier through our planning, design, manufacturing, and installation services.
What kinds of projects do you work on?
Lately, I have spent a lot of time working on new schools. Colorado passed $3 billion dollars in bond money for new construction and major renovations so new schools are popping up all over the state, which is fantastic. Around 225,000 people are moving to Colorado every year so multi-family homes are going up at a record pace. So I also work on a lot of apartment and condo projects.
Denver Health is a project I’m really proud of how it turned out. A few years ago a community-needs assessment revealed that an area of Denver suffered from a severe lack of healthcare resources. In response, Denver Health decided to build the Federico F. Peña Southwest Family Health Center, a new multipurpose health center in the area with an urgent care. We worked diligently with our client to meet brand standards, city codes, and create an intuitive wayfinding system for multilingual patients and visitors. The end result is a beautiful, state-of-the-art facility.
What makes ASI unique or different from the competition?
Quality! We offer consultative services from the planning and design stages through implementation. With 33 years of experience in the business, our people work with the latest and greatest manufacturing resources. When clients work with us, they know they’re working with a trusted and reliable resource that will deliver high-quality results.
If you could go an all-expenses-paid dream vacation, where would you go?
Germany! I would love to drive on the Autobahn, attend Oktoberfest, drink their delicious beers, and spend time in the countryside.
